Subject: Please Support The Functional Gastrointestinal and Motility Disorders Research Enhancement Act of 2015 (HR 2311)

Dear [Name of Representative],

Thank you for your continued leadership on healthcare issues.  I am writing to you today as a constituent and as an advocate for the International Foundation for Functional Gastrointestinal Disorders (IFFGD) to request that you cosponsor The Functional Gastrointestinal and Motility Disorders Research Enhancement Act of 2015 (HR 2311), and work to see that this important, nonpartisan, revenue-neutral legislation is passed into law.

[Insert brief paragraph about your personal story with an FGIMD here]

Functional Gastrointestinal and Motility Disorders (FGIMDs) are conditions that involve improper functioning of the nerves, muscles, and similar mechanisms of the digestive tract. Many of these conditions are chronic and some can be life-threatening. They affect people of all ages, genders, and backgrounds. Little is understood about FGIMDs and as a result, many are often misdiagnosed or mistreated. Currently, treatment options for FGIMDs are extremely limited and focus on symptom management – no cures are known.

HR 2311 is a critical piece of legislation that seeks to expand basic and clinical research into FGIMDs by implementing the research recommendations of the National Commission on Digestive Diseases. The bill grants the National Institutes of Health (NIH) new authority to bolster and coordinate research in this area. It also calls on the NIH to partner with the Department of Defense (DOD) and the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) to increase research activities.

Please support The Functional Gastrointestinal and Motility Disorders Research Enhancement Act of 2015 (HR 2311) by becoming a cosponsor of this legislation. You can become a cosponsor by contacting Amy Bos in the office of Congressman F. James Sensenbrenner, Jr. at This email address is being protected from spambots. Thank you for your time and your consideration of this request.

Sincerely,
