An Active Presence on Capitol Hill
Recognizing the need for more research into causes and treatments of functional gastrointestinal and motility disorders,IFFGD has provided oral and/or written testimony to Congressional subcommittees many times over the years.
Each fiscal year (FY), Congress decides how much funding to provide federally supported medical research initiatives, what areas of research should be prioritized, and how much funding should be committed towards new drug approval and the monitoring of current treatment options.Whenever appropriate, IFFGD offers testimony which expresses the needs of functional GI and motility disorder patients and urges additional resources for the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and Food & Drug Administration (FDA).
IFFGD has presented the needs of the digestive health community to both the Senate and the House Appropriations Subcommittees on Labor, Health & Human Services, Education and Related Agencies, as well as the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Defense.
